Since the early 1980’s thousands have come to Christ through our outreach evangelistic ministry. In obedience to Christ’s command to make disciples, discipleship groups were formed and then churches. Pastors, teachers, and leaders had to be trained, so we opened up a Bible Institute at the Mission, which was envisioned on the Pereau’s first visit in October 1966. “He who began a good work will complete it until the day of Christ Jesus…” (Philippians 1:6)
A chapel for Mission staff and children was constructed on the property in 1963. It was a humble place of worship and teaching. On occasion, a few people from the community would attend services. In a sovereign move of God, a blind teenage boy named Lucio received his sight. David Mendez, the son of a missionary, was meeting with a group in some old buildings by the river. Part of the buildings were washed away in a flood. David and his friends came to the Mission church, and soon the building could not hold the congregation. The group moved into the old theatre building, and outgrew that facility. The waving field envisioned in 1966 was now a reality.
A church builder from Portland, Oregon, chuck Mills volunteered his services to build the present sanctuary which seats over 850 people. Today, the Mission Church is an interdenominational, interracial, and intercultural congregation. The church has a dynamic Sunday school! Sunday evening services are bilingual-Spanish/English. Enthusiastic teams lead worship and praise! The church sponsors youth, mother-daughter, father-son and leadership conferences. In addition, seven satellite churches have been established. Where there is no existing evangelical church, a church is birthed through our discipleship program; when a missionary worker has a group of disciples who include ten families willing to tithe to partially support a pastor/church. Donors provide funds to purchase materials to construct a church building. Sometimes workgroups also assist with the construction. Designated gifts for these pastors are receipted by FFHM and sent 100% for their support.
A number of our graduate Bible Institute students are currently living and ministering in South West Mexico, especially in Oaxaca. Several have built churches and are pasturing congregations in remote areas.
