Oaxaca (wa-ha-ka), in southwest Mexico, is a rugged, mountainous land of diversity. One of the great treasures of this beautiful state is its people, many of whom have never heard the name of Jesus. To these we have been called, "...so that they may turn from darkness to light from the dominion of Satan to God...so they may receive forgiveness of sin and an inheritance among those sanctified by faith in Jesus Christ" (Acts 26:18).
For many years the Baja mission has been ministering to indigenous people migrating from the state of Oaxaca to work in the fields surrounding our mission. Many of these have accepted Christ as their Lord and Savior. Many have attended our Bible Institute in Baja and returned to Oaxaca to evangelize their towns and villages. In 1997, the Board and Staff of FFHM began praying about beginning a new work in the Mexican state of Oaxaca to assist our missionaries there and continue our vision to reach the people of Mexico. In September of 1998 Foundation For His Ministry purchased property in the rugged beautiful colonia of Tlacolua, (ta-la-ko-lu-la), Oaxaca for a Mission base. Oaxaca is populated by a people who are very poor, with over 155 people or ethnic groups. Many areas of Oaxaca are still considered “unreached” with the gospel of Jesus Christ. Bob Sundberg, pioneer missionary, is helping us reach out to the unreached of Oaxaca. FFHM has fourteen Bible School graduates living and ministering in Oaxaca. Many of these are establishing churches where formerly there were none.
In January 1999, Director Charla Pereau traveled to Oaxaca to finalize negotiations for the turnover of an existing orphanage and Christian school in the colonia of San Pablo Etla, about 50 minutes from our mission base in Tlacolula. Since that time, the children and staff have moved to our Tlacolula property. A new building has been constructed with help from many church work groups and individuals. God is real, powerful, and alive in the mountains of Oaxaca-in the hearts of the young people who will be the future of their nation.
Over the past few years the ministry has expanded to include regular conferences and training seminars for pastors and Christian leaders throughout the state of Oaxaca. The ministry has constructed an expanded ministry center at the Tlacolula mission base (about 30 minutes South East of Oaxaca, Oaxaca) When completed this new ministry center will have a conference facility, medical center, Christian school and children’s home that will accommodate over 90 orphaned and destitute children. Facilities for the children are near complete.
Main building
The need is so very great in Oaxaca, and our work is just beginning. Please pray that the Lord will direct every step taken for Him.
There are different phases of the construction of facilities. Work will continue in God’s timing as He provides funding, materials, work teams, and construction workers. While we’re planning the building for the people, God is planning the people for the buildings. It is our hope and dream that many will be brought into a relationship with Jesus through the ministries of the children’s home, church, school, and future medical center in Oaxaca. Area missionaries, church leaders, and students will be trained, equipped, and encouraged in Christ. When completed, literally thousands who have never heard the gospel will see God’s light through countless acts of His love at the mission. We also believe that God is preparing work teams and visitors to help in this exciting vision. Listen for His call!
Ian Croft is our Construction Manager and he is kept busy with planning and implementing the plans for construction. Both Ian and Elaine are our hosts to greet you when you come to visit!

Youth With A Mission (YWAM), has published a 30-day prayer guide for Oaxaca, compiling demographics gathered by two of the many unsung heroes of the faith. Bob Sunberg and Jose Lucio Villagomex Rivas, with courage and determination, trudged through the unknown land from village to village to survey . They spent thousands of hours compiling the data for the sake of the unreached people. Contact ywamoaxaca@prodigy.net.mx for a copy.
"If you have done it unto one of the least of these you have done it unto me."--Jesus
One of the most rewarding aspects of the ministry of FFHM is caring for "the least of these"--the orphaned and needy children of Mexico. In Mexico, unlike the United States, there are no government sponsored systems to care for the poor. Instead they depend upon private charities like FFHM to care for those in need. Without FFHM homes, these precious little ones would grow up on the streets or in the prisons of Mexico. Instead, thanks to supporters like you, we are able to rescue many and raise them in a loving Christian home.
The ministry in Oaxaca is committed to expanding the care of orphaned and destitute children. Our vision is to care for over 90 children. Would you like to partner with us in this vision?
