Antonio Mixing Cement with an Interested Child
Two Construction Workers Preparing for a Stone Wall
|
The mission at Oaxaca is in need of
several projects involving cement-work. These projects include
sidewalks for staff housing, curbs by the playground, and a permanent
fire pit for the children.
The need for a bonfire area came out of
our two recent weeks of vacation with the children. We held two
bonfires and both were great successes. At one bonfire we held our
church service, with a sermon and worship, including an outdoor
dinner. We are hoping to create a permanent space to hold these
types of events.
Two other parts of this cement work
will be a pig-pen for two pigs and a volleyball court. The pig-pen
will provide us with a better way to dispose of our organic compost,
and will also produce fertilizer for our gardens and give the
children something to invest energy, time and care in. The
volleyball court will be built in our playground area and will
provide the children, staff, and volunteers with a new way to bond,
and will help encourage those people who have preferred not to join
the soccer matches or hike up the mountain. It will also provide a
way for the children to become more active in their day-to-day lives.
All of these projects will help us to
maintain our grounds and provide the children at the mission with new
opportunities for bonding together and staying active.
