A copy of Charla’s Children left at a post office in Cambria, CA, and found by the McWhinneys’, led to them serving in Baja for the following 19 years. They bought a home in Costa Brava, where we also have a beach house used for staff retreats. The McWhinneys’ have servant hearts so they never lacked for things to do. They recently sold their beach house and will now live in Portland near their children.

Weekly Prayer & Praise - February 22, 2019

Thank you for praying. “Start each day with a grateful heart and do the kindest thing you
can do today and you will always be in the center of God’s will.”

This was the advice given to me by my mother when I was about 13.

riker_pereau grandchild.png

RIKER

Urgent need for prayer:
Our son Dana sends an update on baby Riker. “Things have taken a serious turn for baby Riker. Yesterday he suffered a seizure. Now the neurologists at CHOLA are being called in. He was clearly not himself, even crying uncontrollably, 'I want my daddy,'  as Nate, his father, was holding him. Imagine terrible two mixed with I'm not sure who or where I am.

We are extremely concerned, and Dr. Melissa Pereau is now involved in trying to bring in another pediatric neurologist who specializes in Sturge Weber Syndrome. Last night he cried and fussed for hours back and forth between Nate and Alexandra, his mother. It is now 6:30 Tuesday morning and it is finally quiet.
Please add him to your prayer list.

corrine ehrick.png

CORRINE EHRICK

connard and deanna hoffman.png

CONNARD AND DEANNA HOFFMAN

We often receive delightful greetings from Deanna.
I thought the following was exceptional.

There once was a man named Valentine,
Who challenged an edict in his time,
That forbade the marriage of soldier and bride.

For the Emperor feared that this would deride,
The ability of a man to fight without fear
To fight but with heart on the one He held dear.

So Valentine offered a solution to those,
A marriage in secret to those who chose,
To place their lives in The Hands of The Lord,
Choose marriage to bind with God’s strong cord!

For this Valentine was condemned to die,
The last note he wrote, said ” from your Valentine.”

So, as we celebrate Valentine’s Day,
I think of the love that prompted him to pray.

To God who is love in its purest form,
A love that goes far beyond the norm.
A love that so loved, God sent His Son Jesus to die,
Then rise again to sit at Father God’s right side!

Valentine knew the right thing to do,
He chose God’s way, even if his life he would lose!

Will I be like one named Valentine,
Who chose the right even though a crime?
Or will I go along with the flow,
In order to keep the friends that I now know?
Each new day God gives us a choice.
So, whom will you choose from heart and voice?

Joshua said” Choose you this day whom you will serve,
As for me and my house we will serve The Lord.”

A heartfelt congratulations to Barry and Debi on their marriage. Barry has been a faithful supporter and brought countless work groups to the Baja Mission.

Many families and communities in Sinaloa face daily challenges. We have great faith that our Heavenly Father and His overwhelming love can transform lives completely. Foundation For His Ministry is there and ready to help prove it. Please pray for Sinaloa.

EL CHAPO

A mother’s prayers availeth much. The late Dr. Sylvestre shared:

HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY

My favorite holiday is Thanksgiving; we can’t commercialize gratitude. My second most favorite holiday is Valentines Day. Legend has it that Valentine was imprisoned for his faith in Jesus about 270 C.E. St. Valentine sent heart shaped notes to encourage believers. Legend has it that he prayed for his jailer’s daughter and she was miraculously healed. Valentine’s actions were discovered, Claudius ordered that he was to be put to death.

We wish we could send you all a Valentine to thank you
from the bottom of our heart for your gift of prayers.

Weekly Prayer & Praise February 8, 2019

marilynn_dave botzenhardt.png

MARILYN AND DAVE BOTZENHARDT

Praise report, answered prayer!

Pastor Mike Bayer reports, “David’s doctor on Tuesday said he is now cancer free. He had cancer in his lungs. Dave has been taking a cancer-fighting drug for a few months now that has a lot of promise for certain cancer patients. We thank God for His inspiration to those doing medical research and the advances we’ve seen. Hundreds maybe thousands have been praying for Dave. Several besides Dave have had or have a cancer diagnosis. I saw in the Spirit people standing for prayer and the congregation coming around them to pray and felt God would heal some. But here’s the thing about prayer for healing: it’s not one person or one time (usually). It’s a combination or culmination of prayer over time by many people. There is often a moment when it all drops out of heaven and healing is manifested. Every person who has prayed for Dave is in on this blessing Everyone had a part in this. Was it the meds or the prayer? Medication can help, but ONLY GOD can heal.

riker_pereaus great grandchild.png

RIKER AFTER SURGERY

An update on precious Riker: Riker has had many surgeries on his face to remove birth marks, which covered his face. He has very limited vision in one eye and during the last surgery pressures were improved. But he was so upset over the surgeons probing they were unable to complete their work, so he will go back in a couple of weeks and go under general anesthesia for more work.

CHILDREN AT THE BEACH

Cheryl Trevor is the administrator of the Baja Mission school. She writes: "God brought some amazing staff from Canada and the U.S. as part of our school team of teachers. They upgraded our library and dozens of children are reading before we ring the morning bell. We received twenty new children between 8 and 12, some who had never been to school before. They create a challenge for us but it is wonderful to see answered prayer for each. It has taken a lot of effort but the smiles on their faces when they can read are priceless. Our favorite field trip was going to the beach to discover what lives inside the tide pools. The children built sand castles and did a scavenger hunt. They discovered a real octopus. That was a great moment.

glenda mendez.png

GLENDA MENDEZ

Last December, Said and Sarai Mendez received the results of a cat scan done on their daughter Glenda that showed she had a severely damaged left kidney and that the right kidney also had some damage. The doctors scheduled her for surgery this last Monday when they planned to remove the right kidney. But many were praying and after taking Glenda in they discovered that they didn’t need to remove either kidney. They only removed some membranes from one of the kidneys.

We are so grateful to have witnessed this healing miracle from God!

JILL ADAMS AND TIM SMITH

Jill has served for over 11 years with FFHM – first in various roles
at the Oaxaca Mission and then most recently as the Baja Mission Administrator. During those years she also adopted two children from Oaxaca. Many who knew Jill were praying that God would send a husband who would be a partner in ministry and also a father to her children.

Then last year God sent Tim, a kind, handsome and godly man
who desired to serve at the Baja Mission. Jill and Tim are now engaged
and will be married next month in a small ceremony
. We thank God for
His faithfulness and ask that He would bless this marriage.

OAXACA MISSION

We are celebrating our presence in Oaxaca this weekend. Not only
for our outreach to the indigenous people there and ministry in the prisons,
but also, thanks to Peter Bianchini; for the construction of the beautiful
building that allows us to house, educate and care for children in need.

We thank God for His faithful provision.

PASTOR GLENN ALMERAZ

Glenn will have the last treatment this month for Hepatitis C.
We will then know whether the treatments have been successful.

Please pray for him.

NIGHT IN BETHLEHEM

Another wonderful presentation of the Night in Bethlehem performed by our own church, staff and children at the Baja mission, was shared with the community.
Please take a look and enjoy.

REVEREND JEAN DARNELL

Reverend Jean graduated to her heavenly reward last week. Jean was a student of Amy Simple McPherson and traveled around the world teaching and preaching the Gospel.
She also had a miraculous healing ministry.

I had the privilege of meeting Jean in 1961 when she was Pastor at Angelus Temple
and a leader in the charismatic movement that encircled the globe.
Elmer and Jean were missionaries to Central America and Australia.

Elmer established a Bible Institute in England and Jean ministered mainly in the Anglican Church there for 25 years. And then they were off to Hawaii and taught at YWAM’s international school with Loren Cunningham. Most recently Jean ministered
at the Church on the Way in Van Nuys, CA.

It was Jean Darnell who established Foundation for His Ministry.
We’ve known her to be a personal friend and advisor.
She was our speaker at the 50th Anniversary celebration in Laguna Woods.

HENRY AND BECKY BUNCH

Henry and Becky were part of our prayer group for years. Henry, a professor at Saddleback Community College, graduated to heaven unexpectedly. He was at the prayer group dinner last Friday night. His service will be held at O’Connor Mortuary in Laguna Hills Friday, January 18th at 2pm.

Please pray for the family, this was a shock!

FOURTH GRADERS FROM GREENWOOD, ARKANSAS
WHO RAISED MONEY FOR OAXACA CHILDREN'S LIBRARY

Kathy Hale, a teacher from Westwood Elementary School in Greenwood, Arkansas writes: "The 4th graders wanted to raise money for new library books for the school at the children's home in Oaxaca. They held a coin drive which started after Thanksgiving break and continued for about three weeks. I am a fourth grade teacher there, and can proudly say the kids raised over $403! My husband Greg and I added to that to bring that total to $500."

LARRY KIELER IN HOSPITAL

Our dear friend Olive Kieler, Mission, British Columbia writes, "Larry is doing well. He is now doing physio therapy to get him more mobile so he can come home. Water retention is still a concern, please keep praying.

Larry and Olive have made countless trips to the Baja Mission.

MERCY

Paul Grasser, writes of his granddaughter Mercy, a 13 year old child with special needs: “It’s been over a week since we’ve been back home from treatments
and hospitalizations, and things are looking up! Mercy has been improving cognitively and we are feeling hopeful again. She is remembering memories again, she is dreaming and telling us her dreams. The most amazing part about
all of this news is the fact that her neurologist made it clear to us that
Mercy will not be able to gain back the cognitive abilities that she has lost!
But our God is greater! She is in the hands of The Great Physician!!!
We are witnessing a miracle! And all praise goes to Jesus.

GLENDA MENDEZ

Said and Sarai Mendez’s, (our missionaries at the Baja Mission) daughter Glenda, will undergo surgery for removal of a kidney on Monday, January 21st at 8am.

ORPHANED BOY RETURNS TO BLESS OTHERS

Perhaps you remember the Camarena family? Eight children were left orphaned in a fatal car accident and the children were interned at the Baja Mission.
Francisco was a mischievous little boy. He graduated from law school
and now works for a large store in town. He and his associates
hosted a Christmas party at our Special Education Center.

We thank God for all those who helped us celebrate Christmas.
We couldn’t do it without you.

OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD

Laura Rodriguez, Oaxaca Mission administrator writes, “We are thankful for the opportunity we had this year to briefly house the Operation Christmas Child gifts in our warehouse, so that local churches and ministries could have a place where they could come pick them up from. It was neat to be a part of that blessing and for so many new people to now have a connection to the home here.

RICARDO AND ANDREA BOLANOS AND THEIR

Christmas was a total blessing at the TJ House. Ricardo and Andrea
were able to celebrate with six of the nine young men they cared for in the

in Oaxaca come to Tijuana to continue their education on a university level.

Laura Rodriguez also writes, “We are thankful for the opportunity to be celebrating the 20th Anniversary of the mission here in Oaxaca at the end of this month. People can be praying as we prepare for this event of thanksgiving for all that God has done for us. And they can email me laura@ffhm.org, if they have any questions regarding the celebration or any old photos they would like to share with us."

Twenty-two years ago these two men, Frank Ticknor and Raul Garcia, went out in search of land or property to purchase for the new Oaxaca mission. An unlikely pair, Frank was a visionary and Raul knew his land, the culture, and the language. After 18 months of research the two men had found the site, an abandoned building with 18 acres on the Pan American Highway. Peter Bianchini designed the plans.
A foreman and Elaine and Ian Croft, supervised the project. A building crew from Glad Tidings in Yuba City remodeled the building on the site. It took years to build. Chuck Pereau was on hand to do the cement work.

BILL TENNY

Celebrating Christmas is often very difficult for those who have lost a loved one during that year. Bill, one of our oldest donors, celebrated Christmas in heaven.
But to those who mourn, there’s a vacant place at the table.

THE CORDOBA FAMILY - GRACIELA IN THE BRIGHT RED SWEATER (BACK) AND MARIO IN THE BURGUNDY SHIRT AND BLACK JACKET (FRONT)

November 1988: Mario and his three little girls, one severely handicapped, made the long bus ride from Pachuco Hidalgo, Mexico, east of Mexico City.
The destination was a then remote place in the Baja peninsula. Mario was not a believer but he was predestined to be the administrator
of both the missions in Baja and Oaxaca. He now pastors the Mission Church. Mario, Graciela and family are now serving the Lord.

The family chose to travel to El Barril, 12 hours south of the Baja Mission. There were about 100 people in this fishing community. Gifts were given to the children but the best gift of all was the Gospel and many received Him.

RICHARD "DICKIE" KEITH

The Pereaus’ took in Charla’s nephew at age 14. Dick had a heart breaking saga and was headed for juvenile hall. Dick writes, “Thank you Charla and Uncle Chuck; I can’t tell you how blessed I was when you took me into your family, you saved my life. Both of your influences molded my life, you were my parents and I love you.”

Dick, a retired police officer, has had many medical problems, surgeries and hospital stays in the last two years. He went from 175 lbs down to 138 lbs. Dick and his wife Margaret attend a little country church in Florida. Please pray.

Change can be very difficult. Laura Rodriguez,
Oaxaca Mission administrator, writes, “As we finish up this year and enter 2019, we have some children and staff transitioning out of the home.
Please pray for blessings in all these changes.”

TWILA BELK

Twila and her daughter, Laney, accompanied Janelle and me on a
fast trip to the Baja and Oaxaca Missions two weeks ago. Seldom, if ever,
do things go perfectly. But this trip to the missions was almost perfect.

Twila and Laney, who speaks Spanish perfectly, interviewed each person
for the sequel. There were tears of joy and sorrow as the testimonies were shared. Maria Villa Pablo shared her account of suffering as a migrant field worker.
Yadira, a pastor’s daughter, was released by her father
to travel to remote places teaching literacy.

Unfortunately, the mission aviation pilot was not able to land the
small plane on the landing strip as it was fogged in.
Modesto was waiting for us. There were many other interviews.

Now we pray that the story can be told effectively by Twila.

NIGHT IN BETHLEHEM

Our Night in Bethlehem presentation, our gift to the community in Baja, has been presented for 27 years. The original script was written by Dr. Marge Wold and presented at Immanuel Lutheran Church in North Hollywood, CA. It was a gift to their community and the community surrounding the Mission.

Cheryl Trevor has made many changes to the script so it is new every year. Cheryl is now the principle of our Christian school and has passed the responsibility of the production of Night in Bethlehem to Said Mendez.

Please pray that Night in Bethlehem will be presented to the glory of the Lord. It will be held December 13th - 15th.

Rick Warren, the pastor of the Saddleback Church in Lake Forest, (our neighbor here in Southern California) was hospitalized last Thursday. He underwent immediate surgery for an intestinal condition and is recovering at this time.
Another surgery is scheduled after Christmas.

Please pray for Rick Warren.

THESE STUDENTS WITH DISABILITIES RECENTLY GRADUATED

Dirk and Mary Kos had a vision that has impacted lives of the disabled at the Baja Mission.
They first took children into their modest home at the mission. Then Dirk had a dream
of the Learning Center. They had faith and it became a reality.
These  students with disabilities recently graduated.

Hope does not disappoint because the love of God has been poured out in their hearts by the Holy Spirit.” Romans 5:5.

BAJA STAFF AND CHILDREN

In as much as you have done it to the least of these, you have done it for me.

A number of the Junior high students pictured here have been out of school
because of a teacher’s strike. The teachers have not paid
and we pray for a quick resolve to this situation.

RIKER AFTER SURGERY

Riker, the Pereau’s great grandson, had to undergo another surgery
Wednesday morning to move his cornea. In January they are planning
a major surgery to reattach the optic nerve in one eye.

Thank you for praying for this precious little fellow who is now two-years-old.

Sincerely,
