THE CORDOBA FAMILY - GRACIELA IN THE BRIGHT RED SWEATER (BACK) AND MARIO IN THE BURGUNDY SHIRT AND BLACK JACKET (FRONT)

November 1988: Mario and his three little girls, one severely handicapped, made the long bus ride from Pachuco Hidalgo, Mexico, east of Mexico City.
The destination was a then remote place in the Baja peninsula. Mario was not a believer but he was predestined to be the administrator
of both the missions in Baja and Oaxaca. He now pastors the Mission Church. Mario, Graciela and family are now serving the Lord.

The family chose to travel to El Barril, 12 hours south of the Baja Mission. There were about 100 people in this fishing community. Gifts were given to the children but the best gift of all was the Gospel and many received Him.

RICHARD "DICKIE" KEITH

The Pereaus’ took in Charla’s nephew at age 14. Dick had a heart breaking saga and was headed for juvenile hall. Dick writes, “Thank you Charla and Uncle Chuck; I can’t tell you how blessed I was when you took me into your family, you saved my life. Both of your influences molded my life, you were my parents and I love you.”

Dick, a retired police officer, has had many medical problems, surgeries and hospital stays in the last two years. He went from 175 lbs down to 138 lbs. Dick and his wife Margaret attend a little country church in Florida. Please pray.

Change can be very difficult. Laura Rodriguez,
Oaxaca Mission administrator, writes, “As we finish up this year and enter 2019, we have some children and staff transitioning out of the home.
Please pray for blessings in all these changes.”

CHILDREN AT RANCHO DE CRISTO

Hundreds of children were hosted by Hans and Nancy Benning and men from Rancho de Cristo for their annual Christmas party. Traditional tamales were made by the men at the Rancho. Hundreds of little cars were made all year long by the men, and Nancy provided gifts, a little stuffed bear for the girls.

We thank our God for those who have faithfully served as fathers and mothers to “the least of these.” A special thank you to Laura Rodriguez, the administrator at our Oaxaca mission. Plans are being made to celebrate our 20th anniversary. It seems only yesterday we purchased the land from the Covenant Church.

NIGHT IN BETHLEHEM

Our annual performance of Night in Bethlehem will be presented from
December 13th - 15th. Thousands will attend this presentation. We pray
that we will have good weather and many will come to a saving
knowledge of Jesus Christ through this real Christmas story.

Please pray for the anointing of God the Holy Spirit on this production.

OUR MEN AT RANCHO DE CRISTO

The men at Rancho de Cristo are hosting a Christmas party for children in poverty. The men have been busy all year making little wooden cars and other children will receive a stuffed animal. Tamales will be served to all, a Mexican tradition. We praise God for Hans and Nancy who are hosting this gala festivity in honor of the Lord Jesus Christ.

VIRGINIA - ELLIE LUGO'S SISTER

Please keep Virginia and Ellie Lugo’s family in your prayers. Viriginia was having a lot of shoulder pain and went for a PET scan. It is highly suspicious for active myeloma in the spine, ribs and sternum. This would be a huge disappointment as the bone marrow transplant is supposed to offer at least two years of remission.
She was originally diagnosed with cancer.

twila belk.png

TWILA BELK

Twila and her daughter, Laney, accompanied Janelle and me on a
fast trip to the Baja and Oaxaca Missions two weeks ago. Seldom, if ever,
do things go perfectly. But this trip to the missions was almost perfect.

Twila and Laney, who speaks Spanish perfectly, interviewed each person
for the sequel. There were tears of joy and sorrow as the testimonies were shared. Maria Villa Pablo shared her account of suffering as a migrant field worker.
Yadira, a pastor’s daughter, was released by her father
to travel to remote places teaching literacy.

Unfortunately, the mission aviation pilot was not able to land the
small plane on the landing strip as it was fogged in.
Modesto was waiting for us. There were many other interviews.

Now we pray that the story can be told effectively by Twila.

BRIAN FORSSE WITH HIS FAMILY

Praise God, Brian's tumor has shrunk radically.
He is scheduled for surgery this week.

Please pray for his complete recovery.

NIGHT IN BETHLEHEM

Our Night in Bethlehem presentation, our gift to the community in Baja, has been presented for 27 years. The original script was written by Dr. Marge Wold and presented at Immanuel Lutheran Church in North Hollywood, CA. It was a gift to their community and the community surrounding the Mission.

Cheryl Trevor has made many changes to the script so it is new every year. Cheryl is now the principle of our Christian school and has passed the responsibility of the production of Night in Bethlehem to Said Mendez.

Please pray that Night in Bethlehem will be presented to the glory of the Lord. It will be held December 13th - 15th.

P.S. Janelle Keller will be doing a solo multiple times during
the Night in Bethlehem’s performance.

Thank you for praying for our trip to Oaxaca and Baja with Twila Belk, the writer of the sequel to Charla’s Children. I never dreamed it would be such an emotional experience. I had a trip down memory lane with our mission staff members. We wept over joyful and painful memories. To my surprise Dr. Ernesto Cano was there to meet me. Dr. Cano has served 47 years on our Mexican board.

Flannel graph was a powerful tool in evangelism.

BONNIE HUNT

I had 68 first cousins. My mother, Olive, was one of 13 children. But my favorite cousin was Bonnie who is in need of prayer this week. Bonnie has had multiple surgeries, including a back fusion. Bonnie has undergone gall bladder surgery this week.

Christmas at the Missions

december_christmas at the mission.png

December is a busy but beautiful time of year around the world. At each of our missions the staff work to create memories for the children in the homes and surrounding communities while they celebrate the birth of our Savior.

BAJA - The highlight every year is Night in Bethlehem when hundreds come to watch a dramatic presentation of the Christmas story. All of the staff are involved in acting, singing, setting up scenery or serving hot chocolate.

OAXACA - The staff and children gather for a Christmas party with lots of food, gifts and pinatas. There is always a lot of laughter some years there have even

been fireworks.

SINALOA - Our outreach team visit the migrant worker camps to share the Christmas story and bless the people there with food, candy and blankets.

More than anything, we hope that everyone is reminded of Jesus’ great love for us as we go through the Christmas season.

Our prayer is the same for each person reading this newsletter. May you feel loved by God as you remember His great sacrifice of sending His son to earth.

Please continue to pray for our son Dana and Antoinette’s granddaughter. Little Amelia has a Wilm’s Tumor in the kidney and it's fast growing. They will do 12 weeks of chemo to shrink it; WAGR babies are prone to renal failure.

“She’s technically blind, but is a precious, sweet, kind, fun and loving child.” She has amazing parents who are strong, and patient. Please pray for her parents who are exhausted. She has been in and out of the hospital constantly.

According to recent reports relayed to us by our friend Stephen Ashby, persecution against Christians has escalated in Southern India. Please pray for Abdul Messiah’s family and friends who this past Sunday, were attacked by terrorist groups and admitted to the hospital.

carolyn smith.png

CAROLYN

Carolyn is a child sponsor and longtime outreach missionary in Mexico. New ownership of the senior community she lives in, has resulted in a huge increase of space rent. This has potentially created a hardship for owners and may force some to have to sell their mobile homes. Please pray for reconsideration of the park owners or that God would bring a buyer for Carolyn’s home.

IS THERE ROOM AT YOUR TABLE?

There are many men, women and children who are in “the far country”. There are empty places at the tables and gifts that remain unopened. Let us join together and pray that the lost will come home for Christmas.

Perhaps there is a lonely friend or neighbor you could invite to your celebration?

Awesome Christmas Stockings

christmas stockings.png

We stood amazed; Vicki Gravell shopped all year to purchase age appropriate gifts for over 100 children.

vicki gravell.png

The women of the Village Church in Laguna Woods, CA, went to Vicki’s home to fill the stockings, (really Christmas cloth bags).

There were “American Girl Dolls” dressed by Vicki. Cuddly dolls, Legos, arts and craft material and soccer balls. It was like a giant toy store. The event was extraordinarily well organized. We were in awe of Vicki’s out pouring of love for the least of these.
And for our children in Oaxaca, Ranell Conine from Winnetka, IL raised money with her friends so the staff there could purchase gifts to go in their stockings.

This was the fourth year Ranell blessed our children in this way.

Oh Little Town of Bethlehem

o little of bethlehem.png

It was a Christmas tradition for Harry and Betty Sherda to attend Midnight service at the Episcopal Church in Beverly Hills, CA.

The words of “Oh Little Town of Bethlehem” are poignant with meaning. “Where meek souls will receive Him still, the dear Christ enters in.” Betty prayed, “Oh Holy Child of Bethlehem be born in us (me) today.” Betty, an agnostic, was born again.

The Sherdas served on our board for over 20 years. Harry, a C.P.A. served as Treasurer. Betty, a court translator, traveled with Charla in Mexico.

The Sherdas hosted us on a number of trips, including a trip to the Holy Land, led by Dr. George Wood.
A trip to Bethlehem was number one on Betty’s agenda…but we were so disillusioned by the Church of the Nativity.

Then Dr. Wood led us to a nearby shepherd’s cave, much like the one that could have been used by the innkeeper. It was musty and a dark, dank place. No place to give birth. We wept. No little drummer boy, or soft lights or poinsettias. No place for the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. Early the next morning, after the birth, we could hear the innkeeper’s wife saying, “If I had only known, I would have given Him the best room in the inn!”

But most important; is there room in your heart for the Lord Jesus? “Where meek souls will receive Him still, the dear Christ enters in.”
