Weekly Prayer & Praise - February 15, 2019

valentine's day banner.png

HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY

My favorite holiday is Thanksgiving; we can’t commercialize gratitude. My second most favorite holiday is Valentines Day. Legend has it that Valentine was imprisoned for his faith in Jesus about 270 C.E. St. Valentine sent heart shaped notes to encourage believers. Legend has it that he prayed for his jailer’s daughter and she was miraculously healed. Valentine’s actions were discovered, Claudius ordered that he was to be put to death.

We wish we could send you all a Valentine to thank you
from the bottom of our heart for your gift of prayers.

Weekly Prayer & Praise February 8, 2019

marilynn_dave botzenhardt.png

MARILYN AND DAVE BOTZENHARDT

Praise report, answered prayer!

Pastor Mike Bayer reports, “David’s doctor on Tuesday said he is now cancer free. He had cancer in his lungs. Dave has been taking a cancer-fighting drug for a few months now that has a lot of promise for certain cancer patients. We thank God for His inspiration to those doing medical research and the advances we’ve seen. Hundreds maybe thousands have been praying for Dave. Several besides Dave have had or have a cancer diagnosis. I saw in the Spirit people standing for prayer and the congregation coming around them to pray and felt God would heal some. But here’s the thing about prayer for healing: it’s not one person or one time (usually). It’s a combination or culmination of prayer over time by many people. There is often a moment when it all drops out of heaven and healing is manifested. Every person who has prayed for Dave is in on this blessing Everyone had a part in this. Was it the meds or the prayer? Medication can help, but ONLY GOD can heal.

riker_pereaus great grandchild.png

An update on precious Riker: Riker has had many surgeries on his face to remove birth marks, which covered his face. He has very limited vision in one eye and during the last surgery pressures were improved. Billy Graham, born Nov. 7, 1918, was an American evangelist and an ordained Southern Baptist minister who became well known internationally after 1949.  He served as a spiritual adviser to American presidents and provided spiritual counsel for every president from Harry Truman to Barack Obama

Billy Graham passed away Feb. 21, 2018.

My mother attended the very first Billy Graham crusade in Los Angeles, in 1948.  She took the streetcar into downtown Los Angeles to attend.  One of the nights she attended, Stuart Hamblen, an American entertainer, gave his life to Christ and like so many others, was changed forever.

Sutherland Springs: This a time to mourn for the soul of our nation. Let us pray for Sutherland Springs and all the families affected by this event. Our hearts are heavy, but God is on His throne and we WILL be victorious in spite of the evil in the hearts of so many.

FFHM

Although Doug Williams, our C.P.A. has yet to finalize our annual audit, we believe FFHM is approximately $58,000 in the red. This is the second year we have had a deficit. The fact that it is nearly impossible to transport donated goods across the border into Mexico is the reason for this deficit.

We know that God’s work done God’s way will not lack supply.

ANDREA

Andrea Pereau Lombard went through surgery on Wednesday to put in a pacemaker. Please pray for a quick recovery and total healing.

This may be a project to which you’d like to contribute so we may purchase the ingredients in Ensenada.

ALTERNATIVE CHRISTMAS ORNAMENT

Our annual Alternative Christmas campaign started in October. You can help meet the basic needs of the ministry as well as our surrounding communities in Baja and Oaxaca.

A friend of the ministry included a note with her donation: "This gift is given to further the wonderful work you are doing. It it given in memory of my husband, Reverend Alfred W. Walck and his sister, Amanda M. Walck, parish worker, it is also given in honor of our family of 12 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.

My husband and I were foreign missionaries to Papau New Guinea for 26 years.

We have been impressed with your work and regularly read your newsletter, often sharing it with the family. The grandchildren chose to give toward the peanut butter and milk project. The little ones will enjoy receiving an ornament to hang on their Christmas tree to let them know where their grandfather's memorial was sent.

Thank you for the good work among the children of Baja and Oaxaca."

LAURA

Laura Rodriguez, Oaxaca Administrator writes, “We are discouraged!” In Oaxaca and other places in Mexico there is an annual practice of Day of the Dead on October 31st. There is often demonic manifestation connected with this celebration We don’t know whether or not this is a demonic manifestation, but…we’ve had mechanical failures, two washing machines that refuse to run, the internet has been sketchy, the copier is jammed and the guy who promised to come fix it didn’t. The children are struggling in school. All this to say we are in need of your prayers as we prepare to hold our annual Board meeting November 3rd and 4th in Oaxaca.

FRIDAY NIGHT PRAYER GROUP

It all began with a prayer group; for the last 54 years we’ve met every Friday night. We were a group of Lutherans who had a passion to reach the world for Christ. Through the years our numbers have varied but we have met faithfully. Out of this group of prayer warriors, the Baja Mission in Mexico was birthed.
(Read the chapter in Charla’s Children, available from our US office.)

She was taken to Golisano Children’s Hospital at Strong in Rochester, NY where she received excellent care from a facial trauma team.
