NIGHT IN BETHLEHEM

Our Night in Bethlehem presentation, our gift to the community in Baja, has been presented for 27 years. The original script was written by Dr. Marge Wold and presented at Immanuel Lutheran Church in North Hollywood, CA. It was a gift to their community and the community surrounding the Mission.

Cheryl Trevor has made many changes to the script so it is new every year. Cheryl is now the principle of our Christian school and has passed the responsibility of the production of Night in Bethlehem to Said Mendez.

Please pray that Night in Bethlehem will be presented to the glory of the Lord. It will be held December 13th - 15th.

P.S. Janelle Keller will be doing a solo multiple times during
the Night in Bethlehem’s performance.

FRANK TICKNOR WHO FOUND THE PROPERTY
DR. ERNESTO CANO AND MARIO CORDOBA.

THERE WAS AN UNFINISHED BUILDING ON THAT SITE THAT WOULD LATER BECOME THE MISSION PROPERTY IN TLACOULULA

Thank you for praying for our trip to Oaxaca and Baja with Twila Belk, the writer of the sequel to Charla’s Children. I never dreamed it would be such an emotional experience. I had a trip down memory lane with our mission staff members. We wept over joyful and painful memories. To my surprise Dr. Ernesto Cano was there to meet me. Dr. Cano has served 47 years on our Mexican board.

YADIRA AND HER STUDENTS

Twila Belk and her daughter, Laney, interviewed a number of missionaries at both the Oaxaca and Baja missions for the future book. Yadira, now married to Esteban, told of her experiences in Chiapas and the remote mountains of Oaxaca, teaching literacy (which is close to my heart). Flannel graph was a powerful tool in evangelism.

BONNIE HUNT

I had 68 first cousins. My mother, Olive, was one of 13 children. But my favorite cousin was Bonnie who is in need of prayer this week. Bonnie has had multiple surgeries, including a back fusion. Bonnie has undergone gall bladder surgery this week.

FFHM BOARD & LEADERSHIP

Our annual Board meeting will be held on Saturday, October 20th in Baja.
If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.” James 1:5. We claim that precious promise.

We pray for safety as we travel to and from the Baja Mission. We will be dedicating the new daycare center in San Quintin, 17 miles south of the Mission.

BABIES IN THE NURSERY

Please pray for the infants and children who are adjusting to their new home and housemothers. We currently have 11 babies ranging in age
from four months to two years old in the nursery in Baja.

EUNICE LOPEZ PRAYING WITH THE HOUSEMOTHERS

Eunice (Niche) writes, “I want to thank the Lord for the house parents and recognize the willingness they have for the service for the Lord, day after day. They are on duty 24 hours a day caring for the ‘least of these.’ They lay their lives down for these children in Oaxaca. They often suffer fatigue and weariness.  There are difficult times and also moments of joy and satisfaction.

Perhaps you remember Niche from Etla.
She faithfully serves as supervisor of the Oaxacan house parents.

JOY WILLIAMSON IN THE COMMUNITY

Joy is back at the medical center in Baja. She is such a vital asset to the community.  We are praying to get our X-ray machine at the medical center certified. Right now, both of the local hospital’s X-ray machines are down.

Please continue to pray for the medical center,
that we can become a real light to our community.

AMELIA AND THREE OF HER PAINTINGS

Dana and Antoinette Pereau’s grandchild, Amelia, is a cancer survivor. She suffers from WAGR syndrome, a rare form of autism. Born with no irises in her eyes, she must wear sunglasses all the time. Although considered legally blind she can see broad images. She also has very limited language skills but is improving by leaps and bounds.Recently three of her paintings were auctioned off at a charity event for cancer survivors and garnered $1000 for the charity.

ALEXIS JUAREZ

Alexis' father called the Baja Mission to ask us to have a
memorial service for Alexis in the Mission Church. Even though many of his family
were not Christians, the father said, “Alexis was a son of God,
I want them to do everything that he would want.

The companions who grew up with him in the Special Education Center, teachers, his family, and some of the staff at FFHM were there to say goodbye to this student who fought until the end. The father gave thanks for all the financial support, prayers and the demonstration of affection towards the family. A memorial service is a great opportunity for preaching the Gospel.

We are faced with life and death issues. Where will we spend eternity?

GIVING THANKS WITH A GRATEFUL HEART

In the fall of 2000, Jamie and Jane Caldwell welcomed us to our new office and volunteered the services of their cleaning crew. We were overwhelmed by their generosity. “We were strangers and you welcomed us.

Jane is now in a Senior Living community in San Juan Capistrano,
but Victoria and her crew continue their custodial service as a gift to us.

RON RAMOS AND ANDY BROSCHE

Ron, a former administrator at the Baja Mission,
and Andy of Mariners Church, dropped by the office last week.

TWILA BELK

We are in the process of writing a contract with a published author for the sequel to Charla’s Children. Our friend, Godfrey Dawkins, suggested we contact Cecil Murphey, author of Gifted Hands. He is now retired but his associate, Twila Belk agreed to write the sequel. This is an answer to prayer.  I just read a book of hers recently published titled, The Power to BeIt was delightful!

WILLIAM ZERSEN

William writes, “In my prayer time, I have to stop and ask the Holy Spirit to clear my mind of everything that is not of the Lord and the purposes of my prayer.
Once I do that, rarely do thoughts other than what I am praying for come to my mind!

Sincerely,

2018 FAMILY BIBLE CAMP

How many of you remember Family Bible Camp at Camp Seeley or Pinecrest? Each year we took children from Mexico to the US  for this special event.
But after 9-11 our world would change forever! We could no longer take children into the US for this greatly anticipated event.

Sandy became the director of our Kid’s Camp in Baja.
But last year and this year, Jill Adams restored Family Bible Camp.

Thank you for sending a kid to camp.

laura rodriguez.png

LAURA RODRIGUEZ

Laura, administrator to the Oaxaca Home for Children, writes, “I see the ways we can grow as a home and respond to the needs in the community around us, but we need more staff to do that…We feel stretched pretty thin from time to time.”  Open positions in Oaxaca: maintenance, cleaning, teenage girls’ housemother.

CHILDREN WITH NEW SHOES IN OAXACA

A long time ago, I remember well the day Chuck and I took the children from Etla to the Central Market to buy shoes. They were in desperate need, so Glenda’s story touched my heart. An unknown donor from Mexico City purchased shoes for His little ones. May God bless the donor.

MODESTO

MODESTO CLIMBING UP THE MOUNTAIN

Modesto, one of our Bible school graduates is legally blind. He ministers in a remote region of Oaxaca. This area is often dangerous and hostile to evangelists.
Recently a man was killed there. As a precaution, a pastor in this area asked Modesto to stop coming for a season.

MARILYNN YEADON

Dave and Marilynn served on our board for many years. We met the Yeadons at Sky Valley Park in Desert Hot Springs. Marilynn was recently diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, and outside of a miracle, she will be leaving us in the near future. Please pray for the Yeadon family.

We praise and thank God for their part in His Ministry

PAST THANKSGIVING MEAL

We first met the Van Dykens at Crystal Cathedral in Garden Grove, CA. Pete and Janice made all the arrangements for hosting our Thanksgiving dinner at the Baja Mission. The Van Dykens have had an extraordinarily difficult year, but Janice will carry on her tradition of preparing Thanksgiving this year.

However, we will have to purchase turkeys and all the trimmings in Mexico because of difficulties at the border. If you would like to have a part in providing our festive Thanksgiving dinner, designate on your contribution “Thanksgiving dinner."

Michael writes: God surely is capable of more than we could ever ask or imagine and He gives us the desires of our hearts when we delight in Him. (Psalm 37:4) The Mexican people constantly gave thanks to God for His faithfulness and provision. Every prayer was an outflow of gratitude. We seldom see this in our American church. Kyle developed a fellowship with the teen boys and he is excited about becoming a sponsor. Brian sees himself playing a role through financial support.
