Frequently Asked Questions
Is a Passport required to go to Mexico?
All visitors must obtain and carry a passport. For up-to-date information on travel requirements, go to http://travel.state.gov/
Can I just drop in at the Mission anytime?
No – reservations are required for all visitors. Anyone desiring to visit the Mission should use our visitor inquiry above.
Space is limited at all of our Missions, taking reservations up to one year in advance. Please contact us to inquire about availability for your stay.
Is there a cost to staying at the mission?
A donation of $15 USD per person per night is suggested to cover the costs of room and board.
What’s the usual week like for a visitor?
Due to the nature of working in the mission, daily activities may include:
Mission Tour (Monday morning)
Morning Devotions (“Sala”)
Work Assignment (varies based on Mission needs)
Time with Mission children (Monday nights)
Child Evangelism ( *subject to COVID restrictions)
Explore the local community (market, shops, etc.)
how will i get to the mission?
Due to being a border state, individuals traveling to Baja are responsible for their own transportation to the mission. Visitors to Oaxaca will be picked up at the airport.
Am I required to speak Spanish?
No. Many of our staff are bi-lingual, and church services and devotions are translated. We are delighted when visitors can understand and speak Spanish, but is not required and should be included on the skills list in the Visitor Profile.
What kind of work will I be doing?
There are a variety of opportunities to serve at the Missions. We try to match skills and abilities from the Visitor Profile with our current mission needs. Every part of the Mission has been built with help of our volunteers, including: construction, gardening, cooking, auto repair, general facility maintenance, medical, educational instruction, infant care, sewing, laundry, outreach ministries … and more. Everyone is able to help in a meaningful way.
Please inform the Groups Coordinator of any special skills and expertise.
Is there a dress code for visitors?
The local Christian community adheres to a conservative, modest dress code. Out of respect, we request that all volunteers and visitors adhere to the following: Clothing should not be tight fitting, sheer, or see-through; midriff and shoulders should be covered; conservative dress is recommended for morning devotions and church; pants and skirts that come to the top of the knee or lower may be worn anytime; bathing suits should be conservative and only worn at the beach.
*No bare feet, please, for your health and safety.
